The Dutch government has sent a memorandum to the Lower House of the Dutch Parlement on the relationship between copyright and the new media. This letter is of importance tot the negotiations concerning the proposal for the Directive on copyright of which the European Commission recently presented the amendend proposal.
The memorandum is also of interest for the other European countries involved in the negotiations about the Directive.
The Minister of Justice thinks that the proposal of the European Commission is too much focussed on the right owners. He pleads for adjustment now it is still possible, in an open letter to the Volkskrant, one of the leading Dutch news papers. The letter of the Minister is published on the website (unfortunately only in Dutch): http://www.minjust.nl/c_actual/persber/pb428.htm The above mentioned memorandum is available in English and added to the website of the FOBID Legal Committee: http://www.surf.nl/fobid/mvjeng.pdf.
